A shocking incident has emerged involving a 14-year-old boy who has been charged with making several anti-Semitic phone calls to Jewish schools and synagogues in the York Region and Toronto area. Authorities in York Region initiated an investigation in November 2025 after receiving reports that someone had been making derogatory remarks aimed at Jewish institutions during phone calls to staff members at various schools, places of worship, and community centers.
On Tuesday, law enforcement officials arrested the young suspect following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Newmarket. During this search, they also reportedly discovered a substance believed to be psilocybin, which is known for its psychoactive properties.
Due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the 14-year-old cannot be disclosed. He now faces serious charges, including ten counts of mischief related to religious property, ten counts of making indecent communications, as well as possession of a Schedule III controlled substance.
In a statement expressing his dismay, Police Chief Jim MacSween remarked, "I am appalled and disappointed that a young individual feels empowered to engage in such offenses. These incidents highlight the urgent need for all sectors of our society to collaborate in guiding our youth towards a more positive and constructive path."
